Canyon Crest Academy Students Recognized for their Innovative Fitness Card Game

May 10, 2024 (San Diego, CA) — Local student-run company PowerUp Games is one of 15 teams across the nation selected to compete in the Student Company of the Year Competition as part of the JA USA National Student Leadership Summit (NSLS) held in Washington, DC.

PowerUp Games is the creator of the fitness card game Workout Wars, an innovative card game that adds an interactive fitness twist to classic card games like Uno. Their product was inspired by the idea of creating a fun, family-friendly game that encourages people to get active no matter what their fitness level is.

“Being selected for the NSLS feels immensely rewarding and seeing our efforts recognized on such a prestigious platform fuels our motivation to continue innovating and making a positive impact in the world of fitness and wellness,” said high school junior and PowerUp Games CEO Daniel Hong. “We believe this experience will not only enhance personal growth but also bring new insights and inspiration to our company, helping us to further our mission of making fitness enjoyable for everyone.”

PowerUp Games was developed by Canyon Crest Academy students under the guidance of Junior Achievement of San Diego’s (JA San Diego) Company Program curriculum in their advanced business class. PowerUp Games additionally donates 15% of all profits to the National Fitness Foundation.

This is the fifth consecutive year a JA San Diego team has been selected to compete in the NSLS. The 2024 NSLS will take place in Washington DC from June 9-13.
