JA Stock Market Challenge

Put your investing knowledge to the test at JA Stock Market Challenge. High school students complete JA Take Stock in Your Future to learn the fundamentals of investing in the stock market to prepare for the event. This is a county-wide event that welcomes students across the San Diego region

The Challenge simulates a 60-day trading period on the stock market over the course of two hours. Each team of students is given $500,000 in mock stocks and cash. Students then compete to build the portfolio with the highest return on investment. The winning teams will be rewarded with fun prizes.

Pop Up

JA Stock Market Pop is a one-day investing workshop designed to give high school students a comprehensive introduction to the stock market. Participants will learn the fundamentals investing including how to invest, the types of investment options, and how to develop a long-term strategy. Through hands-on practice in a stock market simulation, students will gain real-world experience in trading stocks.

The workshop concludes with a competitive investing challenge, where participants compete to build the best mock portfolio over a 60-day simulation period. The student with the highest-performing portfolio will receive a prize! Join us and discover the exciting world of investing.

JA Student Company

of the Year Competition

Students who participated in JA Company Program have the option to submit their business in a countywide competition to win JA San Diego Student Company of the Year and earn the chance to compete at the JA national competition.

Students pitch their business to a panel of judges composed of local business owners, executives, and professionals. The judges score students based on the company’s ingenuity, marketing, and finances as well as the quality of the business presentation.

The 2024 JA Company of the Year competition will take place on Wednesday, March 24 at the UCSD Park & Market.

Students meet each school day and develop the foundational knowledge of the local economy, personal finance, career pathways, and work readiness. The cohort model provides students with social capital and financial literacy through real-world experiences directly connected to San Diego’s industries.

Chula Vista Learning Community Charter High School

Students participating in JA Fellows will:

  • Receive mentorship from industry professionals based on the student interests
  • Have the option to partake in paid internships and work-based learning opportunities
  • Learn about career pathways through career panels and job shadows
  • Access scholarship opportunities to pursue higher education
