June 2023 Volunteer of the Month
Bill Spears
Bill moved to San Diego with the Navy as a helicopter pilot. He later joined the Kiwanis Club of Bonita where he was introduced to JA San Diego at one of the club meetings.
With a history of volunteering with youth, Bill reached out and has been volunteering with JA for over ten years! He has helped bring JA curriculum to third to twelfth-grade students as well as worked in JA Finance Park.
Bill continues to be involved in the Kiwanis Club and additionally serves as Key Club Advisor and Eagle Scout Project Counselor.
May 2023 Volunteer of the Month
Kimberly Floyd
Kim is a certified public accountant and runs her own accounting practice. She began volunteering for JA San Diego over 10 years ago after her daughter went through the BizTown program. She saw firsthand what an amazing program it is and what a difference it makes in the lives of young people.
Kim has been involved with several JA programs over the years through teaching JA Day classes, providing virtual lessons during the COVID pandemic, and mentoring JA Fellows students.
She is also heavily involved at Rancho Bernardo High as the Friends of Library treasurer, PTSA auditor, and marketing mentor to their Robotics club. For fun, Kim enjoys international travel, reading, yoga, and hiking with friends.
April 2023 Volunteer of the Month
Satheesh Sadanand
Satheesh works in the Engineering Operations department at Qualcomm Technologies Inc. Outside of work, Satheesh enjoys reading books from a range of genres and traveling.
Satheesh was introduced to JA San Diego through Qualcomm’s employee volunteer program. He volunteered at e3 Civic High School teaching JA Company Program curriculum last year and was very energized to see the students’ passion for social impact. Passionate about education, Satheesh believed JA Company Program was a great opportunity to coach scholars on how to take an idea from concept to production. He is continuing to volunteer with JA through this year’s JA Company Program at e3 Civic High.
March 2023 Volunteer of the Month
Adriana Mendoza
Adriana currently works as a Public Affairs Manager at Cox Communications where she works closely with many nonprofit and community organizations in San Diego. Through her work, she was connected to JA San Diego and supported the launch of the JA Fellows program.
Adriana was a mentor to students at Chula Vista Learning Community Center in the fall and is hosting two interns this spring. She enjoys being able to support their professional journeys by mentoring students.
She has additionally volunteered as a mentor with Mana de San Diego’s Hermanitas program and serves on the board of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego. In her free time, Adriana enjoys watching car shows and “lowriding” her husband’s mini truck.
February 2023 Volunteer of the Month
Ryan Heath
Originally from the Bay Area, Ryan moved to San Diego for work in the financial services industry. He is currently a commercial banker specializing in commercial real estate finance at Citizens Business Bank. Ryan was introduced to JA by a colleague three years ago. As a husband to a SDUSD teacher, he values providing financial literacy education to students.
Growing up on the east coast, Ryan loves to spend time at the beach living an active style. He enjoys the many outdoor amenities San Diego has to offer like surfing, biking, volleyball, and basketball.
January 2023 Volunteer of the Month
Maya Madsen
Our first Volunteer of the Month for 2023 is CEO of Maya’s Cookies, Maya Madsen!
Originally from Sacramento, Maya moved to San Diego in 1996. She got involved with JA a couple of summers ago when she welcomed summer camp students to visit her bakery which neighbors the JA Campus to talk about entrepreneurship. Since then, Maya has gotten heavily involved with JA as a volunteer, internship site host, and as a JA board member.
In her free time, Maya enjoys traveling, cooking, and exercising. She’s completed five marathons.
