Junior Achievement of San Diego (JA San Diego) recently welcomed Stephen Carmichael of Encore Capital Group, Steve Chambers of The UPS Store, and Ashanti Hands of San Diego Mesa College to the Board of Directors. These three leaders bring a wealth of knowledge and experience from the financial, business, and education fields.

Senior Vice President, Chief Risk & Compliance Officer, Encore Capital Group

Steve has experience working at multinational businesses including Discover Financial Services, Capital One, Wells Fargo, and Deloitte. He previously served on the Board of Directors at Junior Achievement of Chicago. Steve received a Bachelor’s in English at Vanderbilt University, an MBA at the University of Michigan, and completed the Wharton Advanced Risk Management Program at the University of Pennsylvania.

Vice President, Franchise & Business Development, The UPS Store

Steve joined the UPS Store in 2003 as a recruiter and is now a vice president at the company. He additionally volunteers with the International Franchise Association’s VetFran Advisory Board and United Way’s Emerging Leaders Advisory Board. Steve attended West Virginia University as an undergraduate student and National Louis University for graduate school.

 

Ashanti Hands, Ed.D.
President, San Diego Mesa College

Ashanti is the seventh president at Mesa College where she previously served as the Dean of Student Affairs and President of Student Services. She has a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and a Master of Arts in Education/Multicultural Counseling from San Diego State University. She attended UC San Diego as an undergraduate where she received a Bachelor’s in Sociology.
