In partnership with Experian and JA offices across the country, Junior Achievement of San Diego (JA San Diego) launched the JA Experian 5-3-1 Challenge to award $30,000 in scholarships to JA Fellows students to support their higher educational goals.

The scholarship was offered exclusively to current students and alumni of the JA Fellows program, an immersive career exploration and professional development program. In partnership with business leaders and corporate and community partners, students explore career pathways and get connected to work opportunities in leading San Diego industries.

Meet the Scholarship Recipients

Neveah

Neveah graduated from Lincon High this spring. She will be attending CSU Northridge this fall and intends to major in biology. Neveah is interested in entering the medical field and becoming a pathologist. Neveah has aspired to be a woman in STEM since her parents introduced her to the field in elementary school and her teachers encouraged her to be involved with science throughout the years.

Kimberly

Kimberly is a recent graduate of Chula Vista Learning Community Charter and will be attending UC Merced in the fall. She is majoring in biology. As an aspiring dentist, Kimberly plans to join the Project Smile: Pre-Dental Society club whose mission is to not only prepare students for careers as dentists but also to raise public awareness of oral health issues through outreach, volunteer work, and workshops.

Erika

Erika graduated from Chula Vista Learning Community Charter and will be attending San Diego State University majoring in business administration and minoring in marketing. She is passionate about building community and business. Erika runs a small business, The Funky Beans, selling her artwork at local flea markets. She has previously interned with the County of San Diego and Sandra Lara Tax. Erika has participated in her high school’s annual Social Justice Summit speaking on immigration and the American Dream.

Axel

Axel is a junior at Chula Vista Learning Community Charter where he is the ASB Class Vice President. He currently plans to major in political science and minor in psychology with the long-term goal of becoming a corporate lawyer. He will be interning with the County of San Diego. Axel has received recognition for demonstrating outstanding leadership while participating as a volunteer youth attorney in Youth Court through the Juvenile Diversion Program at Escondido City Hall.

Ketura

Ketura is a proud graduate of Lincoln High. She is majoring in African American studies at UC Riverside. She is interested in the art education field, specifically as it pertains to fashion and African American culture. Ketura strives to deepen her knowledge of Black and African history and leaders to gain a better understanding of the challenges experienced today.

Bianca

Bianca

Bianca is a Lincoln High alum and will be attending Grossmont College in the fall. She is studying to become a nurse as she has always had the passion to pursue a career in the healthcare field and help people of all kinds in any way she can. At her previous college, Bianca was in 2 STEM programs: PEERS and LifeSci. As she begins classes at her new college, Bianca plans to get involved in Grossmont organizations and clubs such as the Science Club, the California Nursing Students’ Association, and MECHA. She plans to pursue all of this meanwhile working part-time.
