JA's Marla Black Receives Top Honors
Each year San Diego Magazine and the East County Chamber of Commerce, shine a spotlight on women executives, entrepreneurs, and leaders, who have made a significant contribution in our community. These innovative women are pioneers in their fields, serve as role models for our youth, and inspire others to follow in their footsteps.
For these reasons, we are extremely proud to announce, our very own, Marla Black received top honors at both prestigious events. Joining 182 dynamic women, Marla was one of the nominees at San Diego Magazine's 2017 Celebrating Women event on Tuesday, September 26. The event honored women in five categories: Industry Leader, Nonprofit Visionary, Rising Star, Military Service, and Woman of the Year. Marla won the “Nonprofit Visionary” award for impacting a record breaking 80,344 of which more than 55 percent were from low to moderate income families, reflecting JA’s priority on removing barriers to student achievement.
Marla also received the “2017 WILL Award” at the East County Chamber “Women In Leadership” Luncheon on Friday, September 22. The event celebrated 83 nominees, who have made a difference in San Diego County. With this new award, Marla joins previous honorees to include Gaslamp Quarter entrepreneur Ingrid Croce; District Attorney, Bonnie Dumanis; prominent San Diego businesswoman, Patti Roscoe; former CEO of Girl Scouts San Diego, Jo Dee Jacob; and San Diego’s former First Lady, Rana Sampson.
Congratulations to Marla and all the remarkable women nominated! We salute you!
