Junior Achievement of San Diego Joins the Global #GivingTuesday Movement

Goal is to Bring Financial Literacy, Entrepreneurship and Work-Readiness Education to Local Students through the Champion for Youth initiative

San Diego, CA – Junior Achievement of San Diego County has joined #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide.

Occurring this year on November 28, #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday to kick-off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support.

“Junior Achievement helps young people create successful futures by giving them the skills and knowledge to be successful in the world of work,” said Marla Black, President and CEO at Junior Achievement of San Diego.   “We ask the San Diego community to support JA’s mission on Giving Tuesday to get 81,500 K-12 students ready for the real world by teaching them how to get a job, start a business and manage their money.”

Become a Champion for Youth

This year, JA invites you to join their mission on #GivingTuesday by growing your gift through the Champions for Youth campaign.  For the fourth consecutive year, JA has been selected by The Century Club and Farmers Insurance as one of ten San Diego organizations to participate in the Champions for Youth program.

When you make a donation through this charity campaign, JA qualifies for up-to $40,000 in additional funding, while receiving 100% of your contribution.  With your support, you are making an immediate and real impact to provide K-12 students with JA life-changing financial literacy programs. This comes at a time when near half of all teens do not think it is important to save money or create a budget.

Preparing the Future

To celebrate this season of giving, JA invites supporters to see the impact of their financial education programs through the eyes Ethan Hirschberg, a Company Program alum and founder of The Journey Through Autism blog.

"I used to be so afraid to speak in public, "said Ethan.  "But my experience pitching a panel of judges during the two JA Company Program competitions has given me the confidence to tackle any public speaking engagement that comes by way."

In this video, we invite you to learn more about Ethan's entrepreneurial spirit, his passion to help others, and how JA programs are preparing him for the real world.

Give Now & Become a Champion for Youth

This #GivingTuesday, JA hopes you will join their mission to empower students, like Ethan.  Your donation of just $50 will give one student the opportunity to dream for a bigger and brighter future.
