Why is Junior Achievement important to the San Diego Community?
JA’s programs benefit the entire community by teaching young people how to get a job, start a business and manage money – all integral to being a good, productive citizen! An added benefit is the sense of gratification and appreciation business volunteers feel after spending time with students and educators.
What inspires you to work with Junior Achievement?
As the first member of my family to go to college and pursue a professional career, these were all lessons I learned much later in life. I would have benefitted greatly from the life changing programs JA provides. I have always been interested in helping young people find mentors and learn new skills that enhance their confidence. I have been lucky enough to work with Junior Achievement through my efforts in workforce development over the past 12 years. I thoroughly enjoy the enthusiasm and honesty students demonstrate and am often surprised to realize I’m learning from them just as they are learning from me. It’s extremely rewarding to see what these kids are capable of when they feel supported and are encouraged in the right direction!
